now playing: Come To My Window from the album “Yes I Am” by Melissa Etheridge
There used to exist a 4-woman singing group herein Portland, who performed popular songs with rewritten lyrics. One of the women, Melinda Pittman, performed this song of Melissa’s. However, you may remember this song was out around the same time as Microsoft’s release of Windows 95. Melinda sang, “Come Buy My Windows.” It was hilarious.

iTunes is giving me another song. now playing: Are You Out There from the album “End Of The Summer” by Dar Williams
Good choice!

Perhaps I am a miscreation
No one knows the truth, there is no future here
And you’re the DJ speaks to my insomnia
And laughs at all I have to fear
Laughs at all I have to fear
You always play the madmen poets
Vinyl vision grungy bands
You never know who’s still awake
You never know who understands and

Are you out there, can you hear this?
Jimmy Olson, Johnny Memphis,
I was out here listening all the time
And though the static walls surround me
You were out there and you found me
I was out here listening all the time

Last night we drank in parking lots
And why do we drink? I guess we do it ’cause
And when I turned your station on
You sounded more familiar than that party was
You more familiar than that party
It’s the first time I stayed up all night
It’s getting light, I hear the birds
I’m driving home on empty streets
I think I put my shirt on backwards

Are you out there, can you hear this
Jimmy Olson, Johnny Memphis
I was out here listening all the time
And though the static walls surround me
You were out there and you found me
I was out here listening all the time

And what’s the future, who will choose it?
Politics of love and music
Underdogs who turn the tables
Indie versus major labels
There’s so much to see through
Like our parents do more drugs than we do
Oh…

Corporate parents, corporate towns
I know every TV set that has them lit
They preach that I should save the world
They pray that I won’t do a better job of it
Pray that I won’t do a better job
So tonight I turned your station on just so I’d be understood
Instead another voice said I was just too late
And just no good…

Calling Olson, calling Memphis
I am calling, can you hear this?
I was out here listening all the time
And I will write this down
and then I will not be alone again, yeah
I was out here listening
Oh yeah, I was out here listening
Oh yeah, I am out here listening all the time

I have nothing more to say, except thank you again. If you haven’t pledged yet, you still can. You have until sometime Tuesday. We’ve raised $80 for Salmon Nation. to date. could be more later.
Good night!

now playing: It’s A Good Day from the album “The Best Of Miss Peggy Lee” by Peggy Lee
Wait! I already wrote about this song on July 9
So, in that case, iTunes, select something else for this post. Now playing: Could We Start Again Please from the album “Jesus Christ Superstar (Original Broadway Cast)” by Yvonne Ellman
I’ve been very hopeful, so far.
Now for the first time, I think we’re going wrong.
Hurry up and tell me,
This is just a dream.
Oh could we start again please?
What? You want to start this Blogathon over?!?
We’re almost done. Why, one more post and it’s syonara until next year.
I’m definitely doing this next year. It was entertaining and captivating and absorbing. I believe my writing skills got a workout. I read a lot of other blogger’s blogs since I was a site monitor, too. Next year, I’ll be able to start earlier on the fundraising aspect. This year, I decided on Wednesday night to participate. The deadline to sign up was Thursday morning.
Thanks to all those who popped by, posted and pledged. We’ve created community here.

now playing: It’s Today! from the album “Mame” by Angela Lansbury and Company
Every day is a gift. Here is a new one, right now. The sky is beginning to lighten. And “Watch Out– It’s Today”
I made a playlist for myself about 6 months ago. I collected all the songs that made me feel good, happy, energized, positive and called it “Beat The Blues.”
This very minute has history in it. We’re here!
Tune the grand up.
Dance your shoes off.
Strike the band up.
It’s today!
I need this kind of cheering some days. And why not? Angela Lansbury becomes my own personal cheerleader.
next: Peggy Lee. Can you guess what song?

Something’s Coming - the end of the Blogathon! After this post, only 4 more! Wow. How did that happen?
OK - let’s see what iTunes has for me now. playing: Drive from the album “Now That’s What I Call Music! Vol. 6″ by Incubus
Sometimes I feel the fear of uncertainty stinging clear
And I cant help but ask myself how much I’ll let the fear take the wheel and steer
It’s driven me before, it seems to have a vague
Haunting mass appeal
Lately I’m beginning to find that I should be the one behind the wheel
Whatever tomorrow brings, I’ll be there
With open arms and open eyes yeah
Whatever tomorrow brings, I’ll be there, I’ll be there
So if I decide to waiver my chance to be one of the hive
Will I choose water over wine and hold my own and drive, oh oh
It’s driven me before, it seems to be the way
That everyone else get around
Lately, I’m beginning to find that when I drive myself, my light is found
Whatever tomorrow brings, I’ll be there
With open arms and open eyes yeah
Whatever tomorrow brings, I’ll be there, I’ll be there
Would you choose water over wine
Hold the wheel and drive
Whatever tomorrow brings, I’ll be there
With open arms and open eyes yeah
Whatever tomorrow brings, I’ll be there, I’ll be there
Great selection! When this song came out, I was feeling disconnected from my life, not fully present. And I heard these lyrics wrapped around the steady ‘driving’ beat of this song and I thought, “This is a suggestion to live my life more fully - with open arms and open eyes. Get behind the wheel of my life and drive.” I also connected to the lyric about choosing water over wine. As a recovered alcoholic, it was reaffirming to hear this message.
Yeah. Have you ever felt that you were just treading water in your life? You know, time passes, days string together one after another and soon a year has passed and you’ve done nothing. Luckily, I heard that message and heeded the reminder to ‘Hold the wheel and drive. Whatever tomorrow brings, I’ll be there.’ I’ll be present. I’ll be driving my life.
