Grapes

While Autumn doesn’t make its official appearance until Sept. 21 this year, in my garden there are plenty of signs that summer is fading. That’s why I’ve chosen this image of an aging sunflower plant to represent September.

It stands six feet tall in the center of our vegetable garden, offering its ripe seeds to birds and humans alike. The dry, browned petals against the pale blue, partly cloudy sky say ‘harvest time’ to me.

The tomatoes (3 varieties), plums, and grapes are the current most plentiful foods in our household. Soon we will be inundated with figs of the Neverella variety.

–mmmm. chocolate fig bread.
